NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety:
The NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is suitable for those whose role includes the area of general health and safety practice. All such practitioners are involved in the assessment of risks, the identification of hazards and determining strategies for control. There are a number of skills that they would all need and use, such as:
- Raising awareness about health and safety within the organisation
- Using information to promote good practice
- Maintaining and enhancing health and safety systems
- Promoting good relationships to enhance health and safety practice
Course Structure:
To achieve the full Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety qualification, a candidate must complete seven units, made up of 5 Mandatory and 2 Optional units. The programme will start with an Induction day to introduce delegates to the NVQ structure and agree on future Assessment and Development days. The number of days required will be discussed with your account manager prior to the commencement of the programme, but as a guide, it is usually around 6 days, all of which will take place at your own site.
Mandatory Units:
- HSS1 — Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
- HSS2 — Develop procedures to safety control work operations
- HSS3 — Monitor procedures to safety control work operations
- HSS4 — Promote a health and safety culture within the workplace
- HSS6 — Conduct a health and safety assessment of a workplace
Optional Units:
(2 optional units of the candidates choice are required)
- HSS5 — Investigate and evaluate incidents and complaints in the workplace
- HSS7 — Make sure your own actions within the workplace aim to protect the environment
- HSS8 — Review health and safety procedures in workplaces
- HSS9 — Supervise the health, safety and welfare of a learner
