However, the long-term, chronic or indeed some of the short-term or acute effects of asbestos exposure remain a major problem within our working environment. It is only now that some of the devastating effects of long-term exposures to asbestos: serious ill health or death, are being felt. The effects on the individual, the costs to the employer and the country are becoming far higher than other safety-related costs.
